Japanese Kakejiku “Ayame” (Iris) – Hand-painted silk painting with calligraphy

An elegant, original Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) featuring a finely executed depiction of a blooming iris (ayame) in traditional ink and color painting on silk. The composition combines the graceful iris with handwritten calligraphy and several red artist's or studio seals.

On the reverse side is an older German collector's note with the title:

    “Iris with writing!”

as well as the handwritten translation:

"The wind blows – leaves and blossoms change their color."

This note suggests an earlier European collection and lends the piece additional provenance.

The Kakejiku is ideally suited as a wall object for Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, Zen or Mid-Century interiors and looks particularly beautiful in quiet living rooms, libraries, studios or meditation areas.
