Henry Dieckmann (*19.06.1933 - †11.10.2018)
He was born on June 19, 1933 in Verden/Aller.
Henry Dieckmann, 1933–2018, was born in Verden an der Aller and lived in Bremen and Fischerhude. He loved to draw, even in school. After the war, he traded his hand-drawn children's books for food. He was employed by the German Federal Railway at the Bremen repair shop. After an accident that resulted in the loss of his left hand, he devoted himself more and more to painting and offered his paintings at the Bremen flea market. There, in 1969, the then managing director of the Bremer Böttcherstraße management company discovered him and helped him with his first exhibition. Numerous exhibitions followed, both at home and abroad, and he quickly became well-known. He first won an art competition in 1972. Eventually, he was discovered by the advertising industry and designed, among other things, motifs for the French cigarette brand "Gitanes". France fascinated him from his youth, and so he increasingly paints Parisian motifs.
This outlines his main themes: his North German home and his beloved France, especially Paris. The contrast between these places contributes to the appeal of his paintings, which are executed with great care and sensitivity using oil paints on specially prepared wooden panels.
