An authentic, dated, and signed original by the important Constance painter Hans Breinlinger. The expressive composition depicts two abstracted human figures in a powerful visual language typical of the artist's mature late work.
With energetic black contour lines and seemingly spontaneous areas of color in gray, white, and vibrant yellow, Breinlinger developed a modern, almost gestural formal language. The work combines figurative suggestion with abstract reduction and is exemplary of the artistic development of German post-war modernism.
The painting dates from 1960, just a few years before the artist's death, and thus belongs to his later period, in which Breinlinger increasingly created free and representational abstract works. The original signature and date are located in the lower right corner; the reverse is also inscribed and dated.
