This exceptional vase comes from the renowned ceramics manufacturer Wilhelm Schiller & Sons (W.S.&S.) and is a characteristic example of high-quality Art Nouveau ceramics from around the turn of the century (approx. 1895–1915).
The vase captivates with its elegant, sculptural form, featuring a striking handle and curved spout. The deep blue glaze creates a striking contrast to the relief-decorated, floral-ornamental appliqués in a light, slightly golden tone. These decorative elements incorporate typical Art Nouveau motifs: organic lines, stylized plant forms, and a harmonious overall composition.
On the underside is the embossed manufacturer's mark "W.S.&S.", the model number 1225 and the handwritten marking "Ro", which indicates the decoration used or the glaze variant – a typical detail of original pieces from this period.
Background on the manufacturer Wilhelm Schiller & Sons was founded in Bohemia (then Austria-Hungary, now the Czech Republic) in the late 19th century and quickly became one of the most important manufacturers of art and decorative ceramics in the Art Nouveau style. The manufactory was known for its experimental glazes, three-dimensional relief decorations, and high level of craftsmanship.
W.S.&S. collaborated with several designers and model makers; many designs are unsigned, which was common practice at the time. The designs are strongly influenced by the international Art Nouveau movement and show influences from Vienna, Munich, and France. Today, original pieces by Wilhelm Schiller & Sons are highly prized by collectors worldwide.
