Special feature: Sculptural character, unique piece This expressive ceramic vase comes from the German ceramicist duo Gisbert and Barbara Haberland and is an impressive example of brutalist studio ceramics from the second half of the 20th century.
The vase is characterized by its architectural, block-like form, which is punctuated by sculpturally modeled, organic-sculptural elements. Ring- and disc-like components appear to wrap around the upper section, creating a dynamic, almost industrial aesthetic. The deliberately rough surface with its dark, nearly black glaze and lightly accentuated edges emphasizes its handcrafted nature and clearly references the aesthetics of Brutalism.
Background – Gisbert & Barbara Haberland Gisbert and Barbara Haberland are among the most important representatives of German studio ceramics from the 1960s and 70s onwards. Their work is characterized by a conscious departure from purely functional ceramics towards free, sculptural forms. In doing so, they combine ceramic craftsmanship with influences from architecture and sculpture.
