Handcrafted copper relief – Carlo Casassa / Renée Degand – Belgium & Kinshasa, ca. 1960s–1980s
Expressive copper relief from a Belgian-Congolese workshop, handcrafted using classic metalwork techniques: cuivre battu, repoussé, chiselé, patiné. The work depicts a stylized face with closed eyes and clean lines, typical of decorative metalwork from the 1960s to the 1980s.
The accompanying studio card refers to the collaboration between Carlo Casassa (Meise/Brussels) and Renée Degand (Kinshasa, Zaire) – a rare example of European-African artistic cooperation of this period. The relief is mounted on a metal plate and displays a beautiful, authentic patina.
