Vintage Marei ceramic vase with holes (21 cm) – West German Pottery, 1960s–70s – Experimental crystalline glaze / Fat Lava influences
Condition: a chip on the bottom edge - otherwise great vintage condition
This extraordinary vase with a hole comes from the renowned West German manufacturer Marei Keramik (Ransbach-Baumbach), famous for its experimental glazes, vibrant colors, and striking forms. The rectangular shape with a central circular opening is a typical Marei design motif from the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Particularly impressive is the multi-layered, reactive glaze in shades of blue, green, yellow, and brown. The surface displays crystalline, organic structures reminiscent of minerals, oxidation, or lava formations – a hallmark of the Marei aesthetic. Each side resembles its own abstract painting, making each piece truly unique.
This vase works both as a decorative object and for individual branches or dried flowers. Its sculptural presence makes it a focal point in any room.
