Nis Stougaard Bornholm stoneware tile – Handmade Danish ceramic art

12.5 x 12.5 cm
400 g

Beautiful original stoneware tile by the Danish ceramic artist Nis Stougaard from the ceramic island of Bornholm.

The handcrafted tile depicts an idyllic scene with two figures in a coastal landscape. The warm, earthy color palette with shades of blue, brown, and green, along with the vibrant glaze, lends the motif a characteristic Scandinavian look.

Typical of the Bornholm ceramic tradition, this tile combines artisanal quality with folk imagery. The piece is equally suitable as a collector's item, wall decoration, or a special gift for lovers of Danish ceramic art and Scandinavian design.

The back has a wall mounting bracket and is therefore ready for immediate presentation.

Condition

Good vintage condition with age-related signs of wear. Minor edge chips, glaze irregularities, and manufacturing marks are present and underline the authentic character of the handmade object.

Nis Stougaard lived from 1906 to 1987 and was both a ceramicist and a painter.
In the 1940s he worked as artistic director at Søholm Keramik and contributed to the development of numerous designs for this important Danish ceramics manufacturer.
Later he founded his own ceramics workshop in Svaneke on Bornholm.
His works include both ceramic vessels and wall reliefs and decorative ceramic pictures, often with motifs from rural life and the landscape of Bornholm.
