This impressive vintage ceramic vase by Jasba is a true collector's item from the famous Exotica line of the 1960s. Model 1551-28 captivates with its powerful form, distinctive handle, and relief Aztec-style decor—a homage to pre-Columbian art and tribal motifs. Background: Jasba Keramik – Design from the economic miracle period Jasba (founded in 1926 in Ransbach-Baumbach, Westerwald) was one of the leading manufacturers of art ceramics in the postwar period. The name stands for "Jasba" = Jakob Schwaderlapp Baumbach, named after the founder. Especially from the 1950s to 1970s, Jasba was known for its experimental glazes, sculptural reliefs, and modern forms that perfectly fit the spirit of Mid-Century Modern.
The Exotica Line was introduced in the 1960s and was inspired by ethnic and historical motifs, including Aztec, Mayan, and Inca. These designs reflect the fascination with distant cultures and the tiki aesthetic that was prominent in pop culture at the time.
