Willy Max Peter Strang (* 7 July 1936 in Dresden; † 21 December 2022) was a German sculptor. As a modeler, he played a key role in shaping the artistic program of the Meissen porcelain manufactory from the end of the 1960s. Between 1950 and 1954, Strang completed an apprenticeship as a sculptor at the State Porcelain Manufactory in Meissen. After completing his apprenticeship, he initially remained working at the manufactory. At the invitation of Walter Arnold, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden from 1955 to 1960. He specialized in modeling sculptures.
After a study trip to Albania, he returned to the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in 1960, where he initially worked as a freelance artist, before being given a permanent position as a sculptor in the development department in 1968. From 1993 until his retirement, he served as the manufactory's artistic director and chief sculptor.
In 1960, Strang, the painter Heinz Werner and Ludwig Zepner founded the “Kollektiv Künstlerische Entwicklung”, which later also included Rudi Stolle and the flower and fruit painter Volkmar Bretschneider. Strang's grave is in the cemetery in Moritzburg.
