Karl-Heinz Richter
Karl Heinz Richter, born in Halberstadt in 1946, is a trained porcelain maker who initially worked as a teacher in the GDR. However, by 1987 he had already managed to establish himself as a freelance sculptor, which was unusual given the formal restrictions on artists in the GDR. His larger-than-life, plump figures populate numerous public spaces, primarily in East Germany. Richter lives and works in Chemnitz.
