🎨 ABOUT THE ARTIST & THE ARTWORK
Dhimitër Ligori was a monumental figure in the Albanian graphic arts scene and the last member of the "Golden Generation" of the renowned satirical magazine Hosteni. He was known for combining classical painting techniques with sharp social commentary. His early works are exhibited in the Albanian National Gallery of Arts.
This particular work from 2006 addresses the stark contrast between glossy political advertising and the harsh everyday reality in Albania in the mid-2000s. The reflection shows an idealized figure with the inscription "PD" (Partia Demokratike e Shqipërisë / Democratic Party of Albania), while the reality outside the mirror reveals the true, unvarnished state of society.
