Rare porcelain sculpture by Hans Knesl (1905–1971), made in the traditional porcelain factory Metzler & Ortloff, Ilmenau (Thuringia). The figure depicts a reclining, resting form, mounted on a round base. The clear, minimalist design and the serene aura are typical of Knesl's work from the 1950s and 1960s.
The sculpture bears the embossed stamp “KNESL” as well as the Metzler & Ortloff manufacturing mark, which clearly confirms its authenticity. With a height of 35 cm, it is one of the artist's larger, more representative works and is particularly impressive as a solitary piece.
A high-quality collector's item of modern porcelain art — a rare combination of Austrian artist design and Thuringian porcelain tradition.
