    JM Massana, Barcelona, 1947.
    JM Tremoleda, Barcelona, 1946.

The two pioneers of industrial design in Barcelona studied at the Escola Massana in the first year of the program, graduating in 1969. In 1968, JM Massana and JM Tremoleda founded the "Equip de Disseny" studio together with Jordi Domènech and Francesc Miravitlles. In 1973, they founded "Mobles 114" with Mariano Ferrer, a furniture store and interior design studio where they not only created their first designs but also promoted the work of other designers such as Carles Riart at a time of emerging social and cultural changes in which design had to play a key role.

As a result of its commitment to the aesthetic values of modernism and the promotion of design, Mobles 114 has become a national reference in the field of furniture design. Its coherent catalog of contemporary furnishings emphasizes humanistic values as part of its identity.

In addition to their editorial roles at Mobles 114, Massana and Tremoleda designed many of the pieces in the collection themselves. Their work is characterized by the emphasis placed on the functionality of the object and the distance from formalistic practices. Sincerity takes precedence, and aesthetics is its logical consequence. Many of their designs remain part of the Mobles 114 catalog due to their timelessness and long-standing market success. Unbound by passing trends, these pieces have retained their relevance and relevance.

For their work as editors and entrepreneurs of the Mobles 114 brand and “the perseverance and consistency demonstrated over the years, which is reflected in the quality of their products,” Massana and Tremoleda were awarded the 2001 National Design Prize.
